So the verdict is in blogging world… After much debating and searching we have figured out the “anthem” of our incoming little ones room. Since we are not finding out what the sex of the little abs will be until the day of birth (roughly January 2) we have decided to go with a vintagy Dr. Seuss look. Alot of cats, hats, eggs, ham, and horton. So here’s to you Doc… may you comfort our little one in times of tears… may you keep him warm with your muted shades of reds, blues, greens, and browns… and may you further his knowledge in the area of giving in Christmas time…

Lost and Found…

So I found this draft that I wrote in January but never finished…I think it already was though… so here it is…uncut and untouched from January 10th…

Very few things are new when you think about. Occasionally some genius will come up with a new “Ipodish” invention where I beat myself up for not coming up with the idea myself. Most things are just a improvement upon an existing establish foundation. The I pod for example. The generations will go on and we move from a white screen to a color screen, from a push the button to shuffle to the Shake it like a polaroid picture shuffle now. But the same underlying theme stands…it plays music. In my classes we have been discussing the emotional highs that come in our lives. The times when God feels so close that you can touch. The times when the band hits the bridge of song, the drum sequentially crash in, and we feel the sudden urge to lift our hands up. We can walk away from the those moments and say that was the closest to God that I have ever been. Then 3 days down the rode decide that connection has left us because you don’t feel like raising your hands and singing Mighty to Save in the middle of Burger King (shout out to the whopper).

The question that we asked ourselves is “is God closer in that then He is the ups and downs of the rest of the week?”

So if you haven’t gathered from other posts…I very seldom live in the present. I am constantly thinking…occasionally dwelling on the next thing…Its a blessing and a curse at times. I think my biggest problem with these visions are the question of timing. Is it now or next? Do I do it now or prepare for it later? So I have to ask the question if these visions I have are now or next?

Vision implies direction. That’s the goal of vision: common movement in a common direction. Direction in terms of progress and momentum, though, is only linear, and “now” ideas get you nowhere.

Today’s now is tomorrow’s yesterday, actually, so if you’re moving at all… it’s backwards. “Next” ideas, however, move our hearts and our eyes and ultimately our hands and feet forward. And that’s the goal…

So my beautiful wife and I are “with-child”…. Yes all you 3 people who will ever read this…I’m gonna be a dad…Im am so ecstatically pumped! We surprised my mom this past week with a photo of the baby (which is the currently the size of a piece of rice). This is the actual live footage. No actors were used and it was done in one uncut take. Enjoy!

I’m a hater…I admit it…I, Joshua Hercules Abernathy, am sippin’ on some haterade…I hate the PC…Despise it! I apologize for all of you who are caught up in the perverbeal “Mac is just a phase, the PC is the consistent rock on which I stand.”

Let me explain my passion for such malice… We went on a missions trip to Mexico a week ago… Amazing trip…God showed all of us so much and broke me left and right. We return from this trip. Many pictures were taken, even more videos made with digital cameras. We uploaded all their videos from their digital cameras onto our school’s laptop (PC) because of their format. My macbook won’t read most of the videos. So I have been putting together a video of all of the one’s taken in Mexico for our chapel tomorrow. I begin to use the illustrious Windows Movie Maker… start putting some clips in there, some transitions, some effects….low and behold with 1 minute of edited footage I review my work… first 5 seconds play…stop…stutter…jump 12 seconds ahead…one second of play…stop…stutter. The PC can’t handle and eventually closes the program on its own…THANKS PC! So i literally had to pull my old Dell laptop off on the top shelf of the closet, dust it off, and begin transfer all that footage by way of a flash drive from the Thinkpad to the Dell. And you might ask why I am typing this and not working on the video… its been transferring for the last 30 minutes…

Invisible Opponents

So I have these big dreams…MASSIVE… it seems like once I get done with the illustrious planning of one dream an even bigger one pops up. I remember when I was a wee young lad I had the dream of being a professional basketball player. I would stay in my backyard for hours practicing. I would pretend like I was playing against my biggest opponent at that time, defeating them, and moving on to my next even bigger obstacle…usually in the invisible form of a 6’6″ shooting guard from North Carolina…Mr. Michael Jordan.

Part of me can’t believe I just admitted that. All those years my dad thought I was working on strategic basketball moves when in reality I was playing against my invisible friend…Hmmm…who knew…

Anyways my point is that I would do anything in my ability back then to reach that goal…to be in the NBA one day…but that was then. You see I have big dreams…MASSIVE. But what can happen is I can get so wrapped up in fulfilling those that I don’t handle what is in front of me right then and there…right here and now. There is a whole arena right in front of me that I can overlook because I’m so focused on my next bigger move. When in reality that next bigger move is contigent on me conquering the one right in front of me…

That has been my world summed up over the last 4 months. It has been my downfall…my greatest struggle…but ultimately has been the source of my most broken but enlightening moments.

I have big dreams…MASSIVE…but I’m living the one I had 3 years ago… I need to realize that more often and be intentional in fulfilling that dream so I can be ready for the next one.
